LTP Lipid Technologies Provider AB sold to DSM Food Specialties B.V.
The Karlshamn-based company LTP Lipid Technologies Provider AB has now been sold to DSM Food Specialties B.V., a company in the Dutch DSM Group. The purchase price amounted to SEK 225 million; sellers were CIMON Medical AB, DSM Venturing, the LTP management and a number of private investors.
"- LTP and DSM are already cooperating on the development of new products in the weight management area. This acquisition, in combination with DSM's other activities in this market segment, thus creates a wide and solid base for numerous innovative products designed to help consumers adopt a healthier life style", says Rob van Leen, DSM.

Coding Technologies appointed company of the year - wins prestigious Swedish "Golden Mobile Award". Coding Technologies was honoured with the award for "Company of the year" by the Swedish trade magazine Mobil. The foundation for the award was that Coding Technologies' audio format MPEG-4 aacPlus has gained immense success during the last year and that the audio compression means everything to business success in many segments of the mobile telephone industry, especially for the future development of 3G services and podcasting to mobile telephones.

Micromuscle develops electro-active polymer technology for the IntelliDrug project. Micromuscle has been selected as an official provider of materials and technology for the EU financed IntelliDrug project. The project's aim is to develop an intelligent drug delivery device based on microsystem technology.  Micromuscle's part of the project will be to develop and supply electro-active polymer components that control the release of liquid medications. Micromuscle's EAP technology was selected for the project after an evaluation of several different technologies, having unique advantages such as low energy consumption and low voltage requirements.

LTP signs Distribution Agreement in France and Belgium on Olibra. LTP Lipid Technologies Provider AB has signed a distribution agreement with Physcience Laboratory, France, giving Physcience the exclusive rights to market LTP's satiety ingredient Olibra as a single-dose mini-shot - the "Slim 10/10", in France and Belgium. Says Jörgen Quick, Managing director of LTP: "This agreement will is the first launch of the Olibra "mini-shot" product on key European markets. Additional Olibra mini-shot launches are planned throughout other European markets, Japan and SE Asia". "Slim 10/10 will be available in all leading French pharmacies and health stores from November 2005.

Branded as "Fabuless" by DSM, the new product helps control food intake without the sacrifice and discipline usually associated with dieting and weight control. Micromuscle AB announces joint-development agreement, whereby unique electro-active polymer technology enables global medical device manufacturer to design new applications. Micromuscle AB today announced that it has secured a joint development project with a global manufacturer of medical devises, based in the US, to the effect that Micromuscle will develop a new function for one of the partner's products. The agreement follows on an initial technology evaluation project which was successfully completed. In the first development phase the agreement results in revenues of up to SEK 5 million, with prospects for considerable royalty revenues linked to future commercialization of the resulting technology and products.

LTP has signed a license and supply agreement in the US with General Nutrition Corporation (GNC), giving GNC an exclusive right in the US to LTP's satiety ingredient Olibra, for the dietary supplement market. Based on a novel product development, GNC has launched Olibra as a major extension into their weight management brand "Total Lean".

3GPP selects MPEG-4 aacPlus from Coding Technologies for mobile audia and multimedia services. Coding Technologies today announced that its aacPlus audio codec has been standardized by 3GPP as the codec for high quality content delivery. LigthUp Technologies and DakoCytomation A/S announce the market introduction of ReSSQ EVB Assay, a nucleic acid test (NAT) for detection and quantification of Epstein-Barr virus. The assay provides a rapid an accurate means of monitoring viral load of EBV in clinical specimens. Coding Technologies introduces world's first USB receiver for Digital Radio Mondiale. Coding Technologies will showcase the world's first USB receiver for DRM, the new standard for digital broadcasting in the long, medium/AM, and short-wave bands, at the International Broadcasting Convention IBC 2004 in Amsterdam. The handy little box branded "Digital World Traveller" is to be connected to the USB port of a PC or Notebook and is capable of receiving DRM, FM and AM radio programmes.

America Online licenses aacPlus v2 Audio Codec from Coding Technologies. Coding Technologies announced today that America Online has licensed its aacPlus v2 audio codec for use with its media delivery platform and the NSV file format. aacPlus v2 will enable AOL to efficiently deliver high-quality audio and audio-visual services at low bit rates to AOL members.

Coding Technologies today announced a major licensing deal with Nokia, an agreement that enables Nokia to incorporate Coding Technologies' internationally standardised aacPlus audio codec in future Nokia products. Coding Technologies confirms that aacPlus, the world's most efficient audio compression scheme, has already been adopted by mobile operators like SK Telecom, Vodafone an mmO2 for their mobile music services. The agreement is immediately effective and grants DakoCytomation co-exclusive rights to market and sell LightUp's products in Europe. LTP has acquired patents and other immaterial property rights in the field of galactolipids from the bankruptcy estate of Lipocore Holdings AB. Vodafone Germany adopts Coding Technologies' aacPlus audio codec for Mobile Music Download Service, with turnkey solution allowing full length music downloads on mobile phones. Vodafone Germany has now introduced its new Vodafone Live! Music download service based on aacPlus, which makes Vodafone Germany the second operator (after mm02) to adopt Coding Technologies' aacPlus audio codec in Europe. The Vodafone service uses Musiwave's Music On Demand Service and is a key step in the development of the worldwide mobile music market.

The purpose of this new company is to develop and market lipid-based drug delivery systems for a wide range of application areas. Coding Technologies and Beijing E-World Technology form Audio Codec joint venture in China. Coding, in concert with Beijing E-World Technology, the government and industry sponsored company responsible for creating the new Chinese Enhanced Versatile Disc (EVD) format, announced today that they are establishing a joint venture, Beijing Media Works, to create and license a new audio codec. This new SBR enhanced codec, EAC 2.0, is already specified in the EVD format and will also be targeted for use in other Chinese applications. Beijing Media Works is based in Beijing. SBR enhanced EAC will be licensed exclusively in Greater China by the joint venture and in the rest of the world by Coding Technologies.

DSM Venturing is focused on direct investments in early-stage companies in DSM's strategic growth fields: Food Ingredients, Pharmaceutical Intermediates and Performance Materials. The investment in LTP is one of a growing number of direct investments by DSM Venturing.
DSM Venturing led this investment round together with CIMON Medical.

LightUp Technologies AB announces today the approval by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. to CE Mark its ReSSQ CMV Assay according to the European Community in Vitro Diagnostics (IVD) Directive. ReSSQ CMV Assay is a nucleic acid test to be used in conjunction with real-time polymerase chain reaction and is the first such diagnostic system for cytomegalovirus to be awarded the CE Mark.

SK Telecom Adopts MPEG-4 aacPlus from Coding Technologies as Standard format for 3G Music-On-Demand and Video-On-Demand Services. Coding Technologies and SK Telecom, the leading mobile service provider in Korea, announce that SK Telecom is adopting aacPlus and plans to deploy the codec into its 3G content service offerings. SK Telecom already provides MOD and VOD to over one million 3G subscribers in Korea. Karolinska Hospital selected LightUp Technologies' first probe product, ReSSQ(TM) CMV Assay, to become their routine method for detection and quantification of Human Cytomegalovirus (HCMV), replacing their previous testing process. The hospital selected ReSSQ CMV Assay after a thorough validation study, concluding that the CMV Assay could be accurately used in combination with Roche LightCycler to obtain qualitative and quantitative analysis of CMV DNA in various types of patient sample material. Being one of the largest and most prestigious hospitals in the Nordic countries, Karolinska is a very important reference customer for LightUp Technologies AB.

The company's proprietary technology consists of conductive polymers, which expand as they are subjected to an electric potential and regain their original shape as the potential is normalized. Micromuscle's technology can be used in medical applications, e.g. microsurgical instruments, with new and revolutionary properties. Micromuscle is currently focusing on developing vascular surgery products but is also exploring applications of the technology in other areas.

Mountain View, CA/Tokio - Coding Technologies, Matsushita Electric Industrial (Panasonic) and NEC announced today that the three companies have introduced a new low-power decoder version for the upcoming MPEG-4 AAC-plus-SBR (aacPlus) standard, which achieves CD-quality audio at low bitrates. Requiring 40% less processing power, this low-power SBR decoding method is officially recognized by MPEG and is bitstream compliant with the MPEG-4 aacPlus standard. The availability of both low-power and high-quality MPEG-4 aacPlus implementations enables the standard to run on the widest possible range of processors for mobile and portable device applications. Such a range is critical in the adoption of MPEG-4 aacPlus in 2.5G and 3G audio distribution markets.

The medtech company Eutech Medical AB has attracted a 15 MSEK investment from Swedestart Life Science KB and CIMON Medical AB. This will finance the further development of a medical device for treating incontinence, plus the assemblage of additional clinical data to facilitate its market approval.

The product that the Gothenburg-based company Eutech Medical devises is an implantable valve for the treatment of incontinence. The concept is based on clinical experience and research, conducted by leading clinical urologists.

Pascal developed the Meniett portable pressure-pulse generator to treat the symptoms of Ménière’s disease, a disorder of the inner ear that causes recurring bouts of vertigo, tinnitus and hearing impairment. During the next nine months, Medtronic Xomed plans to transfer production of the Meniett technology to its Jacksonville facility, launch it in the United States and expand international distribution.
